I adore color
and typography.
HAMMER INNOVATIONS
Challenge: Design and implement a brand and indenity for Hammer Innovations; a custom VW Bug Restoration Company in Alberta, CA.
About this project: Simple Vintage design compliments the vintage cars. Business cards and various promotional material to come.
ACDS COMMUNICATIONS STRATEGY
Challenge: Layout communication strategy for the Alberta Council of Disibility Services.
About this project: Simple and modern design utilizing two colors along with bold headlines and clean typographical treatmeants. This communications strategy outlines a communications plan for the Alberta Council of Disability Services. The plan addresses the communications needs of ACDS and the strategies suggested for achieving ACDS goals among its target audiences.
CARING NOW MAGAZINE
Challenge: Create a magazine for the ACCA geared towards people associated with the Continuing Care industry.
About this project: This is a magazine put out by the Alberta Continuing Care Association in partnership with Rose Country Advertising & Public Relations. The magazine is a free bi-yearly to tri-yearly publication featuring articles of interest for people within the industry including medical doctors, long-term care operators and their staff, caregivers, seniors housing owners, residents of care facilities, providers of products and services to seniors, and elected and non-elected government officials.
VANCOUVER 2011
Challenge: Create a line of streetwear inspired by the anniversary of the Vancouver 2010 Olympics.
Concept and execution: This is an ongoing collaberation between myself and Sarah Tonin Designs, a local fashion designer. Inspired by the changing skyline of our fair city and the social and political issues surrounding the 2010 Olympics. More pictures to come, please check out Sarah Tonin Design on facebook to stay updated.
BUCKNASTY
Challenge: Create an event poster for a local comedy group's first show. Job included logo refinement and printing.
Concept and execution: BUCKNASTY is a local comedy group with a "no holds barred, anything goes" approach to comedy. They wanted a raw feel, a dirty feel. Something that would acurately represent their brand of comedy. Their first event, "A Night at the Biltmore" needed some posters. This is what I did for them.
BIJOUX PRECIEUX
Challenge: Create a made-to-order picnic for Holt Renfrew priced at $300.
Concept and execution: Bijoux Precieux is a French picnic consisting of Duck, Black Olives, Dijon Mustard, various cheeses and bread. Ornate french fashion was the inspiration for this design. With heavily ornamented labels printed on delicate velum and a typeface like Bodoni this design speaks elegance and fine dining.
BLINX
Challenge: Creating and implementing a brand identity and product line for a cosmetics store geared towards youth experimenting with their style.
Concept and execution: This design takes the clean look of vectors and partners it with the grungy look of paint. The splattered texture element and the dripping paint along side the funky typeface enhances the playfulness of the brand. Blinx Cosmetix takes three of the most apparent trends in youth style and makes them into convenient packs. Blinx also sells singles for mixing and matching, allowing you to discover your own style.
TOO
Challenge: Create a personal project.
Concept and execution: Too is a children’s story written for adults. The story is entirely original and written from the perspective of a three year old child observing and expressing life with a single mother. The story touches on the guilt felt by the mother for being busy and not being able to do all her child wants to do. The illustrations are the work of the authors three year old son.
NEO POE: A KINETIC NARRATION
Challenge: Gather a series of live performances and design a brochure featuring the series.
Concept and execution: NeoPoe is a compilation of ballets based on Edgar Allen Poe’s short stories. The idea of “Kinetic Narration” is portrayed through movement in the design by using texture and manipulated imagery. The ballet dancers with their disassembled bodies revealing the inner workings of implied movement and motion. Mixing the new with the old speaks to the title; old decaying texturing and vintage ballet dancers contrasted by the clean sleek modern sans serif typeface.
CINE ENERGY DRINKS
Challenge: Create a set of beverages using two design directions; contemporary and retro.
Concept and execution: The second direction of Cine takes on a Swiss style design. Using minimal color and mainly typography, this call back design is sleek and minimal. The only imagery seen is the stencil images on each bottle. Each stencil is indicative of the genre and adds a textural element to contrast the clean lines in the labels.
DOWSE
Challenge: Invent and design a magazine.
Concept and execution: The word ‘dowse’ means to search for underground sources of material, and that’s exactly what inspires this magazine: the search for underground sources of art. Visually, Dowse has an underground/grunge feel intended to appeal to artists and people interested in the arts. The colors in Dowse are bright and bold, complemented by modern and strong typography, reflecting the philosophy and content of the magazine: strong, bright, loud artists.
JAWS AND CLAWS
Challenge: Design a Brand, Identity, Line of Products, and Advertising for a new store.
Concept and execution: Dogs, Cats, Birds, and Fish are the standard for household pets. Jaws&Claws specialize in ‘alternative’ pets of the reptilian and amphibian families. The idea behind the Jaws&Claws design is that they are the “anti-cute” — the alternative to “normal” pets. At Jaws&Claws, Nothing’s cute and fuzzy except lunch. The mousey Jolly Rodger coupled with the slogan is comical and the packaging, being strictly typographic, brings a lighter mood to the business of feeding ones scaly, clawed companion.
PANIC
Challenge: Create a box set of books designed for sale at Chapters.
Concept and execution: Panic is a design guide consisting of a book for each of the major design elements: type, space, image, color, and concept. Typographically driven, the design is clean and bold. The use of color is both
eye-catching and functional as a distinguishing element between each book.
Design is
everywhere.
A marriage of my two passions; Art and Technology.
Conversation
breeds inspiration.
